Final Week Begins: A Thrilling Climax to the fortyfivedownstairs Chamber Music Festival 2025

fortyfivedownstairs is now entering the exhilarating final week of its acclaimed Chamber Music Festival 2025, running until Sunday 18 May. Following a string of sold-out performances and bold musical collaborations, the festival's final days promise some of its most ambitious and emotionally resonant concerts yet — from radical new opera to Beethoven’s epic Ninth Symphony.

Audiences are invited to experience these final events in the intimate and atmospheric surrounds of fortyfivedownstairs, under the direction of internationally renowned pianist Coady Green. If you haven’t yet joined Melbourne’s most innovative chamber music celebration, now is the time.

Don’t Miss the Final Week – Program Highlights from 12–18 May

Tuesday 13 May
Opera Closets – Mezzo-soprano Dimity Shepherd presents vivid, hilarious, and deeply personal operatic storytelling.

Wednesday 14 May
Kiss My Sword – A provocative new operatic cycle by Meta Cohen, plus works by Sally Whitwell and Kevin March.

Thursday 15 May
A dazzling program of Beethoven, Czerny, Liszt, and Fanny Mendelssohn with Sally-Anne Russell, Coady Green, and Glenn Riddle.

Saturday 17 May, 4:00pm
Beethoven’s Symphonies No. 5 & 6 – Four-hand piano brilliance from Coady Green and Ricardo Roche Idini.

Saturday 17 May, 7:30pm
Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony – The breathtaking Liszt two-piano version performed by Coady Green and Michael Leslie.

Sunday 18 May
A Gwen Harwood Cycle – A major new song cycle by Linda Kouvaras, performed by Helen Morse, Justin Kenealy, and Coady Green.

This is chamber music at its boldest: intimate, genre-defying, and unafraid to challenge and thrill.

Coady Green is one of Australia’s most sought-after concert pianists, acclaimed internationally for his virtuosity, sensitivity, and fearless musicality. Described as “a virtuoso pianist with sensitivity, intelligence and charm” (Musical Opinion, London), Green has performed in over 25 countries at venues including Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Sydney Opera House, and the Salzburg Mozarteum.

A former London-based artist and winner of prestigious accolades such as the City of Sydney National Piano Competition, a Churchill Fellowship, and multiple international prizes, Green is also a passionate chamber musician, educator, and advocate for new Australian music. He lectures in piano and performance at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music and is the founding director of several international competitions and artistic initiatives.
