Tasmanian Chamber Music Festival Presents Prelude Festival in Historic Richmond

Hobart, Tasmania - The highly anticipated sixth Tasmanian Chamber Music Festival is set to captivate audiences with its Prelude Festival on Sunday, 3 November, in the picturesque town of Richmond, located in the heart of the Coal River Valley. This one-day event features three exceptional concerts showcasing a diverse range of music performed by renowned musicians from Australia and abroad.

The Prelude Festival starts at 11am with an all-Baroque concert featuring works by Bach, Handel, and Muffat, performed by a trio from the ensemble Van Diemen's Band, comprising violin, harpsichord, and organ. At 1.30 pm, the newly formed ensemble String Theorem takes the stage, presenting Mozart's Divertimento K563. The day concludes with a captivating performance by the Alma Moodie Quartet at 3.30 pm, exploring music from Bach to Beethoven.

In addition to the musical delights, attendees are encouraged to immerse themselves in Richmond's charming historical ambience, with its numerous galleries, antique shops, cafés, and restaurants.

Festival Director Stephen Block expressed his enthusiasm for the event:

"We are thrilled to bring the Prelude Festival to the enchanting town of Richmond. This one-day event offers a unique opportunity for music lovers to experience an incredible variety of chamber music in an intimate and historic setting. We invite everyone to join us for this unforgettable day of music and discovery."

The main festival promises an equally impressive lineup from Friday, 8 November to Sunday, 10 November. Opening night at Government House features Kristian Winther, Li-Wei Qin, and Konstantin Shamray performing Brahms' piano trio no. 1, followed by mezzo Deborah Humble's enchanting program of Brahms songs.

Saturday, 9 November, at the Ian Potter Recital Hall, audiences will be treated to a diverse array of string quartets by Mozart and Debussy, Prokofiev's violin sonata in D major, and Rachmaninov's cello sonata in g minor. The evening continues at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery with the Alma Moodie Quartet performing works by Bach and Schubert, complemented by a gourmet supper.

The festival concludes on Sunday, 10 November, at St Luke's Richmond with a rendition of the Schubert string quintet, followed by the traditional Sunday festival lunch at the Frogmore Creek restaurant/cellar door.

Please note that all main festival passes are now sold out. However, tickets for the Prelude Festival on Sunday, 3 November, are still available.
