About the program 

Antoinette Halloran is one of Australia's leading sopranos, praised for performing in the most prominent venues across Australia and abroad. She is joined by renowned concert pianist Coady Green for this special evening of art song and cabaret.

The program features the world premiere of Kouvaras' new song cycle, She Who Should Have Been a Queen, based on Halloran's original poetry. This major new work reimagines famous operatic heroines from a contemporary feminist perspective, with humorous and profoundly moving results.

The program can also include Schumann Frauenliebe und leben (as optional additional work).

Rounding out the concert is Kouvaras' evocative solo piano suite Bundanon Suite, which delves into stories from the Bundanon Estate on the Shoalhaven River and explores the relationship between humankind and nature.

About the artists 

Antoinette Halloran is one of Australia's most accomplished and best-loved sopranos. She performs regularly with all the major Australasian opera companies and symphony orchestras, and has appeared frequently on national television and radio. Halloran's versatile repertoire spans opera, musical theatre, and cabaret. She has received critical acclaim for her portrayals of leading roles such as Tosca, Madama Butterfly, Mimi in La bohème, and Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd. Halloran is praised for the sensitivity and dramatic intensity she brings to each performance. In addition to her operatic work, she has also collaborated with renowned artists like Elvis Costello and the Brodsky Quartet, demonstrating her versatility across musical genres.

Coady Green  - One of Australia's leading concert pianists, Coady Green is acknowledged as a major talent on the international concert circuit. In 2005, Coady relocated to London after winning almost all the most prestigious awards his native Australia had to offer. During his eleven years in London, he frequently performed at the major UK venues and held teaching positions at the University of London and the Royal College of Music.

He has performed in major concert venues in over twenty countries. He is a frequent guest lecturer at leading international tertiary institutions and teaches and lectures at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, University of Melbourne.

He is currently working on recording the complete solo and chamber music of Australian composer Linda Kouvaras in eight albums, as well as the complete Etudes and Preludes of Anton Rubinstein, both for renowned UK label Toccata Classics. The first Kouvaras album was released internationally in May 2024.

Coady is the artistic director of the fortyfivedownstairs Chamber Music Festival.
