Australian Youth Orchestra Presents "Pure Energy" - AYO Young Symphonists Concert in Canberra

Canberra, 26 August, 2024 - The Australian Youth Orchestra (AYO) is proud to announce its upcoming "Pure Energy" concert, featuring the AYO Young Symphonists, to be held at the Snow Concert Hall, Canberra Grammar School, on Saturday, 5 October at 7 pm.

This spectacular event showcases five diverse works for orchestra, performed by Australia's finest school-aged musicians. Auditioned from across the nation, these rising classical music stars will unite under the baton of conductor Carlo Antonioli, demonstrating the finesse of a professional ensemble.

The program centres around three radiant works by women composers:

  • Maria Grenfell's powerful "River, Mountain, Sky"

  • Grace Williams' lively "Fantasia on Welsh Nursery Tunes"

  • Holly Harrison's grooving and innovative "Splinter"

The concert opens with Mussorgsky's electrifying "Night on Bald Mountain" and concludes with favourites from Tchaikovsky's iconic "Swan Lake".

Carlo Antonioli, an accomplished Australian conductor who has previously held positions with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and West Australian Symphony Orchestra, expressed, "These young musicians are illuminating the future of classical music, and it's never looked so bright."

This concert promises to be a thrilling experience for both orchestral regulars and first-time concert-goers, showcasing the bright future of Australia's classical music scene.
