Australian Youth Orchestra Announces  REPLA.Y.O: A Reunion Concert for Alumni and Friends

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Australian Youth Orchestra (AYO) is embarking on a worldwide search to reconnect with alumni as it announces REPLA.Y.O, a reunion concert orchestra for AYO alumni and friends. Set to take place from 16-19 January 2025 at the University of Adelaide, this event aims to bring together generations of musical talent from across the globe.

REPLA.Y.O invites AYO alumni from the 1960s to the 2010s, parents of participants, current and former board members, donors, and council members to relive the magic of their AYO days. Participants will reconnect with old friends, dust off their instruments, and experience the joy of making music once again alongside today's young talent.

Special guest conductor Guy Noble, not-so-direct from AYO's 1984 Ambassador Tour, will lead this nostalgic reunion. The program features a forgiving repertoire including works by Beethoven, Johann Strauss Jr, Tchaikovsky, and Jessica Wells.

Noble expressed his excitement, saying, The 1984 AYO trip to Europe and the UK was a fantastic tour: great friendships, terrific music. When it finished, I was devastated and wondered when I would have an opportunity like that again. So many of us feel that way about our time at AYO, and so we wanted to create an opportunity to relive the AYO experience.

AYO Artistic Producer, Tim Matthies, added, There are so many people who have been a part of the AYO story over the years. We welcome alumni alongside former staff, board members, audience members and supporters, and parents of current musicians who still play on a semi-regular basis. Over three days there will be social events, reminiscing and a lot of laughter. What better way to reconnect with our AYO community than through music.

The impact of AYO extends far beyond the concert hall. While 70% of positions in Australia's professional orchestras are filled with AYO alumni, the organisation's influence reaches into boardrooms and leadership roles across various industries both in Australia and overseas. AYO alumni have gone on to become renowned musicians, conductors, composers, as well as doctors, teachers, business leaders, and more. This global search aims to reconnect with alumni from pre-internet days to more recent graduates, celebrating their diverse achievements and bringing them back to their musical roots.

AYO is seeking strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, harp, and keyboard players for the program. While there are no strict requirements, participants are encouraged to be playing on a semi-regular basis to maximise enjoyment for all. Anyone over 25 is welcome to apply.
