Internationally acclaimed percussionist Claire Edwardes OAM, a champion of the contemporary classical genre, leads Momentum Ensemble in a program of living, breathing music. Edwardes, known for her passion for disseminating new music to audiences of all ages and backgrounds, brings her collaborative spirit to this exciting project with Australia's finest young musicians.

Australian artists are the centrepiece of this collaboration. The concert features the world premiere of a new work by Alice Chance, commissioned by AYO. Performed alongside the inimitable Ross Edwards' "Laikan", a set of dances rich with rhythmic vitality, this program delves deep into the diversity and innovation of Australia's artistic voice. Culture and connection resonate in works by Yuin composer Brenda Gifford, and earthy impressionism forms "Silva", a concerto for percussion by Mary Finsterer.

The program also features the music of two American composers: Molly Joyce's works are a dialogue of creativity and identity as a disabled artist, and her chamber work, "Lost & Found" is a regimented groove, winding through notions of loss and discovery. Chris Cerrone's "South Catalina" is luminous, integrating composition and improvisation into one explosive score.

Full Program:

  • Molly JOYCE (USA): Lost & Found

  • Alice CHANCE (AUS): Odd Socks (world premiere)

  • Chris CERRONE (USA): South Catalina

  • Brenda GIFFORD: Plover Bird

  • Mary FINSTERER (AUS): Silva

  • Ross EDWARDS (AUS): Laikan
