Australian Youth Orchestra Unveils Ambitious 2025 Season: From Local Stages to European Tour


October 14 – The Australian Youth Orchestra (AYO) proudly announces its 2025 season, marking a triumphant return to the international stage and showcasing Australia's finest young musical talent.

European Tour Marks Global Comeback After a six-year hiatus, AYO will embark on its first international tour since the pandemic, captivating audiences at Europe's most prestigious venues. Led by maestro David Robertson (Julliard School of Music; New York Philharmonic), this tour reaffirms AYO's position as a cultural ambassador for Australia.

Professor Scott Harrison, AYO Chair, states, "The dream of touring once again to Europe is finally a reality, thanks to the commitment of the Australian Government through Arts8, which ensures our elite musicians are afforded pinnacle performance opportunities."

Season Highlights

  • UK conductor Kerem Hasan makes his Australian debut

  • Collaboration with ACO's renowned cellist Timo-Veikko 'Tipi' Valve

  • Performances featuring virtuoso Christian Li and didgeridoo master William Barton

  • New works and arrangements by Australian composers Jessica Wells, Miriam Hyde, and Anne Carr-Boyd

Celebrating Diversity and First Nations Culture AYO is partnering with Ikuntji Artists, an Aboriginal art centre in Haasts Bluff, to incorporate First Nations designs into performance attire, celebrating Australia's rich cultural tapestry.

  • 21 concerts across 14 venues, including 6 European concert halls

  • 550 participants, some as young as 13

  • Employment of 100 artists annually

  • Featuring 15 Australian composers, conductors, and soloists
