Rising Star Carlo Antonioli Joins Australian Youth Orchestra's 2025 European Tour as Associate Conductor
November 2024 - The Australian Youth Orchestra (AYO) announces the appointment of Carlo Antonioli as Associate Conductor for its highly anticipated 2025 International Tour, made possible through the generous support of the Cybec Foundation.
One of Australia's most dynamic young conductors, Antonioli will work alongside acclaimed maestro David Robertson as the orchestra embarks on its first European tour since the pandemic, performing at prestigious venues including the Musikverein in Vienna and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
Carlo Antonioli said: "I'm thrilled to be jumping on board as the Associate Conductor for AYO's 2025 International Tour. It's an immense privilege to be able to work with the best young musicians Australia has to offer and prepare them for the world stage. I'm also excited to be working alongside Maestro David Robertson, whose concerts inspired me as a young musician growing up in Sydney. I'd like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Cybec Foundation for making this opportunity possible."
Kimbali Harding, AYO CEO said: “Whilst there are of course many talented emerging conductors in Europe, in keeping with AYO’s charter of supporting Australian talent, it is important that this opportunity was made available to an Australian conductor. Following his exceptional leadership of the AYO Young Symphonists in October, and his impressive career trajectory to date, Carlo was the obvious choice. This be an incredible opportunity for Carlo to work with and learn from one of the world’s best practitioners in the field, maestro David Robertson. The impact of the Cybec Foundation’s support of Australian emerging conductors is extremely powerful and we are grateful that our young musicians will also benefit from their vision and generosity.”
Kay Attali, Cybec Foundation said, 'We are delighted to support this appointment of Carlo Antonioli, a former Cybec Assistant conductor at MSO. We follow his career with great interest'.
The appointment builds on Antonioli's impressive career trajectory, having previously held positions as Cybec Assistant Conductor at the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and Assistant Conductor at the West Australian Symphony Orchestra. His experience includes working with prominent conductors such as Vasily Petrenko, Sir Mark Elder, and Vladimir Ashkenazy.

The tour will see the Australian Youth Orchestra perform across Europe's most prestigious venues from 18-31 July 2025, culminating in a homecoming performance at the Sydney Opera House.
